22 ways of looking at a glass of water

I

Lapping the stomach
of skygazing fools;
Last steps
           of awakening.

II

Rise of passion
                aureole to cheek,
    neither fleeing frivolous
   nor the detritus.
liquid and inviting to the lips.

III

Mauve whispers tickle the ears of dawn with plummage
Mauve whispers tickle the iris beneath its plummage

       Foliage                of                    light.

IV

Mapping fingers search the contours,
sweats and shivers;
   thaw of contentment.

Wailing of a first born son.

V

                    The unsatisfying quench.

VI

atom city           in evening exodus,
          pouring into the Metro;

                 (circuits to our catacombs).

By each fireplace
                   with a folio,
dispersed,       yet

   A t o m s.

VII

lovers naked in dovetail,
blushes Eos horizon pink,
feathers
         cloak the unity.

VIII

Rising gold on gold in fields of harvest
triumphs scar the epauliere;
Sinking shadows court a second conquest,
folds unfold off Guinevere.

IX

Linear laying in palm with strength to
crush the wall between us.

"Wer zu spät kommt, den bestraft das Leben!"

X

All answers in our reflections.

XI

Perhaps a wind,
perhaps the heat,
the gravitational pull will
shatter the equation.

XII

Damp sigh-dry gasps.
pacific rise and fall;

sleeping in your chest
      on Wednesday nights.

XIII

We lay on ocean bed,
the water and I.

Diving the depths of prism scents,
        the centripetal light.

XIV

between the sheets with a twist of lemon:
   arousals swelling
      Vase a fragile bloom
               for spectred streets.

XV

                 Temperance

XVI

"Another, sir"?
        The saxophone... Nine o'clock saloon.

XVII

To Arms, Columbia! Acolytes!
Babel to Basillica, lo the burning beacon!
    Valkyrie floods
                   September fear.
To Arms! lost souls of wreckage.

XVIII

they say seagulls scull
      the delta, and scatter across
the sky by the swift swing of Mizar

A bottle of gin under green kitchen light
glows like a lunatic
         one

             step

                   behind...

XX

Footbridge tryst in autumn eventide
swan song sunlight in auburn hair,
crackle of the wind-blown leaves.
afterglow,
with eyelids shut

the twilight reverie.

XXI

                       aeternum    iusti autem in
                             vitam    aeternam

                            and thus,
                                  pushed forward...

XXII

From the peaks of the southern archipelago
all i saw was a glass of water.

---

This is a version of an American structure, most exemplified by Steven Wallace’s 13 Ways of Looking At a Blackbird.

What differs in each way of viewing the glass of water?

Does each way only differ in perspective/point of view or also in how it is described and what poetic elements are used?

How does this structural information compare to the above noted poem in American Literature?

---

Feel free to give analyses of the poem as a whole, and to sally forth other arguments and questions, these are just the beginning instigations.  Discuss, and above all, have fun.
